Helen Allen Library

The Helen Allen Library fosters an appreciation for reading and creates life-long learners who are effective users of information.

Hello from the Library!

My name is Beth Lawrence and I am the new librarian here at Webster.  I have only been here five months, but have already fallen in love with your children.. and I hope they feel the same!

With the encouragement of our wonderful leadership here at school, we have thrown ourselves into finding the joy in learning and in being back together.  We have had 2 plays, dressed up, and learned about paper airplanes, classical music, shadow books, choosing gratitude, flags, rocks, traditions around the world, AND dance parties at lunch.

Please take an active role in teaching your child to read.  Make reading and learning a vital and magical part of your family's every day routine.  I tell the kids that reading is like exercise and eating healthy food.. you need to do it everyday, but you can try different things until you find what works for you.  If reading everyday is a challenge, here are two ideas to try..

  1. If you click on the “eBooks” link above on the right, you can sign in (user name: student number, password: child's last name) and have access to eBooks.  Your child can read right on their chromebook!

  2. Another great resource (with your supervision) is YouTube.  There are hundreds of videos of books being read aloud, while the pages are turned.

EBooks and YouTube are both great ways to supplement the books that are being checked out.
